Set the default phone number region
Help echo interpret phone numbers that do not include a country calling code
Overview
The default phone number region tells echo how to interpret a phone number when it has no country calling code. Set it to the country where your organization primarily uses phone numbers in national format.
This is an organization-wide administrator setting in Settings → Telephony → Tenant Settings. It is used when echo parses and matches phone numbers, including when resolving contacts for calls and searches.
The region is a fallback for numbers without a country calling code. A number
written with an international prefix, such as +41 44 668 18 00, identifies
its country independently of this setting.
Choose and save a region
- In echo, open Settings → Telephony.
- In the Tenant Settings panel, find Default phone number region.
- Select the country that matches the national-format numbers used by your organization. The list shows each region's localized name and two-letter code.
- Click Save.
The setting applies to everyone in your organization. For example, a number such as 044 668 18 00 is interpreted as a Swiss national number when the region is Switzerland (CH), and as a German national number when the region is Germany (DE).
When to use an international number
If a number belongs to a different country from your selected default region, enter or store it with its country calling code, preferably with a leading plus sign. For example, use +49 … for a German number or +41 … for a Swiss number. This avoids ambiguity and makes the number's country clear.
Changing the default region does not change the phone numbers saved in your source systems. It changes how echo interprets numbers that do not specify a country calling code.
